Who Is a Candidate for Dental Veneers?
Veneers can be used to conceal chipped and stained teeth, improve worn down or slightly misaligned teeth, and enhance teeth that are abnormally spaced or shaped. For some patients, such as those with broken teeth, these restorations may also have the added benefit of enhancing oral function. At ACE Dental, resin and porcelain veneers are custom-made to fit evenly over the front surfaces of teeth for an appealing, natural look and wider grin. To achieve a balanced end result, veneers are often completed in pairs or reaching from one side of the smile to the other. Cosmetic veneers work best in a healthy environment that is free from cavities, gum disease, and the effects of teeth grinding (bruxism).
How Are Cosmetic Veneers Placed?
Chairside Resin Veneers: In many cases, composite veneers are placed in a single visit, as they are created chairside rather than in a dental lab. To begin, we will prepare the teeth in a process that may or may not require a small amount of enamel to be removed. A composite material that matches your enamel will then be added to the front portions of your teeth and shaped for a natural and attractive look. Once the composite is cured (hardened), it will be contoured and polished for a smooth feel and finish.
Porcelain Veneers: Receiving porcelain veneers often takes place over two office visits. At the first visit, we will remove a small amount of enamel from each tooth, which creates room for the veneers to fit naturally over your teeth. A digital iTero impression of the area will be taken and sent to sent to a dental lab where your veneers will be crafted from high-quality porcelain. Temporary veneers will be placed in the meantime to allow for normal function and appearance. About 1 – 2 weeks later, we will have you return for a second visit to remove the temporaries and bond your porcelain veneers in place.
Caring for Your Restorations
You may experience slight temperature sensitivity for a few days following veneer placement, but that should fade away on its own. Cosmetic veneers should be cared for just like your own natural teeth with daily brushing and flossing. While some dental veneers are more resistant to stains compared to natural enamel, it is still best to minimize the consumption of foods and drinks that may stain to keep your smile bright. To avoid chipping your veneers, you should avoid chewing on hard objects, like ice or your fingernails. We will continue to monitor your veneers and the health of your underlying teeth during your regular dental check-up visits at ACE Dental.
Will Insurance Cover Veneers?
Dental veneers are commonly considered an elective cosmetic dentistry treatment and may not be covered by dental insurance. However, we believe that everyone deserves to have a smile of which they can feel confident and proud. To help make getting your dream smile more affordable, ACE Dental accepts an array of simple payment methods, including low-cost financing options, and can assist you in finding the right solution for your goals and budget.
