The Importance of Dental Exams

At ACE Dental of Texas, our overarching goal is to help you and your family enjoy healthy, happy smiles for life. To do so, we perform comprehensive dental examinations on a biannual basis. These routine dental exams allow our team to evaluate your oral health by checking for tooth decay, periodontal (gum) disease, signs of oral cancer, and other dental conditions. At certain visits, we may take a series of digital x-rays to gain a better insight into hidden problems that may be affecting your teeth, gums, and jawbone. When oral disease and damage are detected early, we can generally offer more minimally invasive care and save you in time and dental costs in the long run. Reach out to our friendly team today and schedule your family's dental exam visits at one of our modern dental practices!

Oral Cancer Screening

Each dental exam at ACE Dental includes an oral cancer screening to evaluate for any tissue irregularities, such as raised or rough patches, sores that bleed easily, and red or white lesions. Oral cancer can occur anywhere in the mouth, including on the gums, tongue, cheeks, floor of the mouth, palate, and tonsillar area. In addition to assessing your mouth, our team will also palpate your jaw, head, and neck areas for any abnormalities. Should any suspicious sores, lesions, nodules, lumps, or other areas of concern be found, a biopsy may be done or you may be referred to a specialist for further care.

Who Should Receive Dental Exams?

Patients of every age should receive routine dental exams at least twice per year. Some of the most common issues, such as gum disease (the leading cause of tooth loss), may not have symptoms you can easily identify. If issues are detected early, the better your family's chances will be for successful treatment with less invasive options. At ACE Dental, we generally provide exams for children, teens, adults, and seniors during biannual dental cleaning visits or as needed to assess emergency dental care or other oral health needs. Our dentists follow the American Dental Association's (ADA) recommendation that children receive a dental exam before their first birthday. Dental exams are also vital for children as they get older and their permanent teeth emerge and jaws develop.

What To Expect During Your Visit

Before getting started with your dental exam, our team will review your dental and medical histories and listen to any concerns you have about your oral health. A member of our well-trained team may take digital x-rays and evaluate for gingivitis and other stages of gum disease. Our experienced dentists will then perform an oral cancer screening and assess your bite, temporomandibular joints (TMJ), and examine your teeth for tooth decay and damage. The fit and integrity of any dental restorations you have, such as fillings or dental crowns, will also be evaluated to ensure they are still effectively serving your oral health.

After Your Dental Exam

If cavities, gum disease, or other dental issues are detected during your exam, our team will talk with you about these conditions and present treatment options to restore your oral health and function. As a comprehensive practice, ACE Dental can meet your family's dental needs from one of our convenient practice locations. We will assist you with scheduling any follow-up visits for dental treatment, including your next preventive dental care visit. Tips on maintaining proper oral hygiene through daily brushing and flossing habits will also be provided during your dental exam visit.

Insurance Coverage for Preventive Care

Since dental exams are generally regarded as preventive dentistry services, they are typically covered by most dental insurance plans. We will contact your insurance to determine your coverage and estimate any out-of-pocket expenses. As a leading provider of affordable dental care, ACE Dental of Texas accepts several flexible payment solutions for any personal costs and will work to help your family achieve good dental health.
