What Is Invisalign?

Well-aligned, straight teeth are not only attractive, but they are also generally healthier and offer greater comfort for your smile. Orthodontic issues, like a misaligned bite, crooked teeth, and overcrowding, can lead to long-term dental issues that may be more costly or difficult to repair. To help patients in our community overcome these common concerns, ACE Dental of Texas is pleased to offer treatment with Invisalign clear removable aligners. Invisalign is generally considered to be a comfortable, attractive alternative to metal braces as these clear aligners are highly discreet and easily removed at certain times of the day. If you are interested in gaining a straighter smile with Invisalign technology, make an appointment with one of our Invisalign certified dentists to learn about your treatment options.

Who Is a Candidate for Invisalign?

Several factors may affect the alignment of the teeth, such as genetics, childhood thumb-sucking, tooth loss, and trauma to the jaw. Dental misalignment can lead to uneven enamel wear, trouble speaking and chewing, jaw pain and dysfunction, and even issues with self-image. Invisalign may be a great option for both adults and teens who would like to achieve straighter teeth without the look and challenges often faced with traditional orthodontics. These clear aligners may be ideal for those who play sports or musical instruments. At ACE Dental, we may recommend Invisalign for orthodontic issues, like:

  • Gapped teeth
  • Overcrowded or crooked teeth
  • Overbite or crossbite
  • Underbite or open bite
  • Narrow dental arches

How Does Invisalign Work?

To begin the Invisalign process, our team will take digital iTero impressions of your mouth, which the Invisalign lab will use to custom-create your orthodontic appliances. When your clear aligners are ready, we will have you return to try in the first set and receive your treatment instructions. The Invisalign system aligns teeth through a series of custom aligners (mouth trays) made of sturdy, clear material. Worn for 1 – 2 weeks, a pair of trays will be kept in the mouth for at least 20 hours each day and only removed when brushing and flossing or eating and drinking. The trays are then traded out for the next in the treatment series, each of which is specially designed to guide your teeth toward their ideal position.

After Your Orthodontic Treatment

Our team will help you schedule visits at our practice every other month to monitor your progress. Though every case is unique, Invisalign treatment may last from six months to two years. Once your teeth are aligned, it is important to keep them from drifting back toward their original position by wearing custom retainers. Vivera® retainers by Invisalign are made from a new iTero impression taken at the end of treatment and fabricated from the same smooth material as your clear aligners. When they are ready, we will talk with you about how to wear and care for your Invisalign retainers. Our team will continue to monitor your treatment results during each of your biannual dental exams and cleanings at ACE Dental.

Insurance Coverage for Orthodontics

A number of our patients find that some of their Invisalign treatment cost is covered by their dental insurance plan. Our front office can confirm your coverage and calculate out-of-pocket costs before your treatment begins. ACE Dental accepts several forms of payment and flexible financing options to help your family enjoy the health and cosmetic advantages offered by the Invisalign teeth straightening system.
