What Are Composite Fillings?
When you have tooth decay (cavities) or a damaged tooth, it is important to have it repaired to avoid further complications for your smile. Dental cavities are a common problem that develop when bacteria attack your dental enamel, creating a hole in the tooth that must be filled to help prevent further infection. Teeth that are damaged should also be repaired to restore normal function and balance to your bite. At ACE Dental of Texas, our experienced dentists use tooth-colored composite fillings to fill cavities and repair damaged or broken teeth. Composites are shaded to match tooth enamel and blend with the smile for a natural result. To find out if a composite dental filling is right for your needs, pleased schedule a visit at one of our ACE Dental locations today.

Is a Composite Filling Right for You?
Composite fillings are safe for patients of all ages and may be ideal for treating the front and back teeth. This restorative dentistry option is often used to address minor areas of tooth decay and damage to the teeth, such as chipped and broken teeth or wear on the enamel caused by teeth grinding (bruxism). In some cases, older silver fillings may be removed and replaced with composite resin as an effective treatment alternative. Since the composite resin is tinted to blend with enamel, tooth-colored fillings are customized to each individual and can look like a natural part of the smile.
What Is the Treatment Process?
Receiving a composite filling at ACE Dental is typically a quick one-visit procedure. The area surrounding the cavity will be numbed to help keep you comfortable during your visit. Other sedation methods can be discussed if you have any fears or dental anxieties to keep you relaxed. After you are prepared, the damaged or decayed area is removed and the tooth is disinfected. A shade of composite resin that matches your enamel will then be chosen and the space will be filled with the material. Once the filling is cured (set) with our dental light, our team will contour and polish the composite so it feels comfortable and blends evenly with the rest of your tooth.
Caring for Your Dental Filling
You should be able to resume your normal daily routine once your tooth-colored filling is complete, but you might notice minor sensitivity to hot and cold foods and beverages for a few days. If your filling feels uneven or high once the local anesthesia wears off, please contact our office so that we can arrange to adjust your composite. Caring for your new filling should be accomplished in the same manner as your natural teeth with proper brushing and flossing each day. During your routine dental exams, our ACE Dental team will check your filling to ensure it is still providing protection for your tooth.
Insurance Coverage for Composites
Composite resin fillings are a standard restorative dentistry treatment for dental cavities that are typically covered in part by insurance. A member of our team will talk to your dental insurance company and help you maximize your coverage before calculating your out-of-pocket portion. ACE Dental is proud to offer competitive pricing and flexible financing solutions to help make your care as easy and convenient as possible.
